Meet Derek Sawyer,
Wine Sommelier & Whiskey ConnoisseurHe operates the south's oldest family-owned Package Store, 49 years, with their newest location opening Spring 2024. They are the South's largest provider of Fine Wines, Cigars, Craft Beers, and Rare Spirits.
He graduated Johnson & Wales Culinary Institute, Charleston, S.C., in 1997 and has worked all aspects of the culinary industry for 25 years with his core focus being wine. He received his Level 1 from the Court of Master Sommeliers in 2011 and his Level 2 CSM in 2012.
To know him is to know his passion lies in teaching and training the world of wines to the masses in both private and public settings. He takes pride in introducing people to wines that encompass the true reflection of Mother Nature through the characteristics and complexities of Terroir, Climate, Soil, and Weather. With being a Sommelier, it is his responsibility to stay in tune with all types of Spirits to be able to represent the complexities that they're made with.
Winston McQuitery,
Wine SommelierBorn and raised in Daphne, Alabama, he graduated from Daphne High School in 2002 and went on to study computer science at Faulkner University. However, his career took a different turn when he entered the restaurant business, working for Aloha Hospitality for 12 years at establishments like Bauhower’s, Compleat Angler, and Bimini Bob’s. It was during this time that his passion for wine emerged. In 2014, he transitioned to a new role at Alabama Crown Distributing, where he has found great joy and fulfillment. Working in wine distribution has been a rewarding experience, and he's cherished every minute of this career shift.
